What Is Continuous Sulfate Filtration?
The Twin RainDance Sulfate Filter features two tanks for treating well water sulfate. High sulfates are filtered in one tank while the other tank is in a standby mode. When the capacity of the first tank is reached, the system automatically switches tanks. The first tank is then automatically backwashed, cleaning itself and remains in standby until the second tank reaches its capacity point. By using two alternating tanks there is always one tank filtering water at any time of day.
When a standard single-tank water filter is backwshing, any water used during this time will be unfiltered and allows sulfates to get into your plumbing supply. A twin-tank system is a great option if you have high water usage or use water at unpredictable times and need filtered water at any time of the day or night.

Sulfate is a combination of sulfur and oxygen (SO4) and exists as a dissolved salt in the water. As such it is colorless and odorless. Removal technology is totally different for the two forms of sulfur.
Sulfates in drinking water currently has a Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level (SMCL) of 250 ppm (mg/l). At this level or above, sulfates can cause diarrhea and resulting dehydration. This condition is most severe in infants, the elderly, and people with other illnesses. Also, high sulfates cause fluid and resulting weight loss in all animals. Sulfates can be reduced by approximately 80% with our under counter household RO units. About 95% is removed by high pressure commercial RO units and whole house reverse osmosis. However, some may not be able to make the RO investment. We offer alternatives to Reverse Osmosis Systems featuring our Sulfate Eater: a special softener utilizing resins that are selective to sulfates. With these units, the sulfates are exchanged for chlorides. There are no restrictions on or known harmful effects associated with chlorides in the water. Sulfate content up to 1,500 ppm (mg/l) can easily be handled in this manner. Above this level please contact us.
