Hard Water
What is Hard Water?
Hard Water is the result of the presence of calcium and magnesium salts in your water source. Hard Water can also indicate undesirable levels of Total Dissolved Salts (TDS).
When does Hard Water become a problem in water sources?
Hardness is measured in parts per million (or the equivalent mg/L) or in grains per gallon (gpg). Note: if the water analysis is given in ppm as CaCO3 then 1 gpg = 17.1 ppm. There is no established limit for the acceptable level of hardness in water, but it is generally considered to become problematic at around 3 gpg.
What are the problems associated with Hard Water?
Hard water can dry out skin and makes hair brittle. It causes soap scum in tubs and showers and spots on faucets, fixtures and dishes. It also causes scaling in appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers and water heaters, which can result in high operation costs and premature replacement.
What treatment methods have been proven to be effective for removal or reduction of Hard Water?
Water softeners have proven to effectively remove hard water. Salt-free water conditioners can reduce the effects of hard water scale but do not remove hard water. Nanofiltration is a new membrane purification technology capable of softening hard water without adding sodium to the water.
What solutions does RainDance Water Systems have to offer?
We offer a variety of water softening systems for city-treated water and well water with salt and no salt systems available.
