​How is the RainDance Iron Eater different from a standard water softener? The Iron Eater is designed to remove very high iron, manganese and hard water from well water sources and is priced thousands less than some national franchise dealers. The Iron Eater is space saving requiring only 2 tanks whereas a standard water softener typically requires a separate iron filter to prevent the softener from fouling - this adds more cost and maintenance for the homeowner. Easy To Use: The Iron Eater uses a water efficient metered initiated automatic backwashing control valve and allows the user to use either standard sodium water softener pellets or use the sodium-free potassium pellet option. The Iron Eater media can become fouled with excessive high iron, manganese, hard water and other contaminants that will affect the performance and efficiency of the system. Excessive iron fouling can cause channeling, pressure drop, loss of capacity, hardness, and iron leakage. Regular use of Res-Up will minimize fouling and extend the resin life of the Iron Eater.

The Iron Eater is a salt regenerated self-backwashing system that automatically removes the trapped contaminants within the filter bed and washes them down the drain. This is accomplished with a digital electronic control valve that is mounted on top of the Iron Eater. This valve is controlled by an electronic meter that calculates the amount of water being used. Once the meter reaches x amount of gallons, it then initiates the backwash cycle that cleans the bed of filtration media and resets it for the next period of filtration.
