Iron, Manganese, and Hard Water are the most common ground water problems in the water treatment industry today. Iron can cause a metallic taste, staining, and many other problems. Iron and Manganese are chemically similar; iron will cause reddish-brown staining of laundry, porcelain, dishes, utensils, and even glassware. Manganese causes brownish-black stains. Detergents and soap do not remove Iron and Manganese stains, and the use of chlorine bleach and alkaline builders can actually intensify the stains. Iron and manganese deposits will build up in pipelines, water heaters, washing machines and pressure tanks. This reduces the flow and pressure of the water supply. Iron and manganese accumulations raise other problems as water supply or water treatment and softening equipment must be replaced. There are also associated increased energy costs, like pumping water through constricted pipes or heating water with heating rods coated with iron or manganese minerals.

The RainDance PRO is a salt regenerated self-backwashing system that automatically removes the trapped contaminants within the filter bed and washes them down the drain. This is accomplished with a digital electronic control valve that is mounted on top of the softener. This valve is controlled by an electronic meter that calculates the amount of water being used. Once the meter reaches x amount of gallons, it then initiates the backwash cycle that cleans the bed of filtration media and resets it for the next period of filtration.
